This alternate emphasis of design intention/philosophy aligns itself with Bill Gaver et al’s position as described in their ‘Alternatives’ paper. And it appears as though this approach is creating a market niche! Similarly I find it of interest as an example of ‘ambient’ tangible computing - that is, a design artefact that utilises background perceptual processing to create a Tangible User Interface (Hiroshi Ishii). The designer (Zachariah) talks about this when he discusses how it monitors activities that we may not be directly aware of (specifically, our environmental impact in our choice of transportation) and renders them in the background in the phone…
