Roger F Malina is an astronomer and editor. He serves as Director of the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille and is the former Director of the NASA-EUVE Space Observatory at the University of California, Berkeley. His scientific speciality is in instrumentation for space telescopes, the study of the universe at Extreme Ultraviolet wavelengths, and more recently he is a co-investigator on the proposed SNAP space observtory which is being designed to study and understand the nature of dark energy in the universe. He is an elected member of the International Academy of Astronautics, and secretary of Commission VI on Space Activities and Society. Since 1981 he has served as Executive Editor of the Leonardo publications, and chairman of the board of the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology ( ISAST/Leonardo) and is president of the French Observatoire Leonardo des Arts et Technosciences (Leonardo / OLATS). He is vice chair of the UNESCO DIGIARTS Virtual Library Advisory Committee and the ISEA International Advisory Committee. He writes and lectures on the interaction of art and science and of art and technology. He is currently involved in the MIR Consortium, a consortium of Arts Organisations that is sending artists into zero gravity.
