statements current work and ambitions for the future: A key part of this is the use of a sensor array. A space has been created within C&CRS at Loughborough University enabling dynamic inquiry and feedback from a computer assisted environment. This environment enables assimilation of digital technology as a key part of the creative process. This assimilation integrates the individual participating in the space and the technology they are connected to/associated with. There is no direct connection to a computer. The computer receives communication through movement and position sensors. This space is now enabling the creation of works using digtal technology where intuition, feeling, and dynamic coordination extend the control of any individual in the space. on the creative use of new technology by artists: I have been involved in the process of drawing from as early as I can remember. It's a behaviour I have engaged in instinctively rather than analytically. My approach to drawing is to set myself in an environment and to explore reactions/responses to that environment through drawing. This has left me with something of a dilemma as I have a strong feeling that digital technology offers possibilities for the artist that can be enlightening, but by nature it demands an algorithmic predetermined input where all variables have been considered beforehand. My desire is to reconcile these two very diverse mindsets and explore the possibilities that emerge. biography images |
