CCS Members

Viveka Weiley is an interaction designer with a background in virtual environments. He joined CCS in September 2006 to begin research into tools for geographically distributed collaborative creativity in mixed real/virtual place.

Viveka sports a Bachelor of Design from UNSW CoFA, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Technology with First Class Honours and the University Medal from UTS. He has most recently been inspired by the work of Bill Buxton, Peter Morville, Don Norman, Edward Tufte, Ben Shneiderman, Clay Shirky, Danah Boyd, Toni Robertson, Mark Pesce, Paul Dourish, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Ian Bogost, Fritz Lang and innumerable others.

Viveka has been in professional design practice for fifteen years, working primarily in telepresence and online communities. In 2002 he co-founded Ping, a geospatial virtual reality startup company, which went on to win various awards and government and industry contracts.

 

He is past chair of Sydney ACM SIGGRAPH and ANZGRAPH, and was a member of the formation comittee for the new SIGGRAPH in ASIA conference series.
