Creativity and Cognition Whisky Tasting, 14th April 2005

An Island Flight: Five whiskys from the isle of Islay, in order of quality and/or intensity so that individual and generic qualities of Islay whiskys can be evaluated.

Single malt Scotch whiskys offer almost as much of a range of complexity and subtlety in aroma and flavor as do wines.  The variations in whisky are influenced by the water and its source, the variety and the preparation of the barley for fermentation, the shape and size of the stills used in distillation, the number of years the whiksy is aged in the cask, the nature and combinations of the casks used for aging the whisky (e.g., virtually all casks used for aging Scotch were formerly used for  bourbon, sherry, port, etc.), the location of the warehouse in which aging takes place (and sometimes the location of the cask in the warehouse), and whether or not the whisky has been rectified (diluted) and chill filtered before being bottled.

The Tasting Event is by special subscription only and is not included in the general conference fees.
